At first glance, it is a soccer instruction:

Cross to Trenton. Take the shot.

But Washington is not only drawing up a match-winning attack...

On the night of December 25, 1776, George Washington led his forces across the Delaware River before launching a surprise attack at Trenton.

So the play works twice:

Cross — a ball into the box, or an army crossing the Delaware.
To Trenton — A player conveniently named Trenton and Washington’s objective.
Take the shot — finish the scoring opportunity… or begin the attack.

A Revolutionary War tactic disguised as a soccer play.

For history people, soccer people, and the particularly dangerous people who are both.
